547 Signal Troop in Vietnam

547 Signal Troop, under the operational tag of AUM352, continued its outstanding Sigint coverage of Phuoc Tuy province in Vietnam in support to the Commander, 1st Australian Task Force (1ATF). 547 Signal Troop were deployed to Vietnam from 1966 to 1971.

This series of records outlines some of the new technologies being developed and trialled to collect Sigint at the time, including the Airborne Radio Direction Finding (ARDF) capability. The files also contain operational reports disclosing the communications of the Viet Cong. The collection of communist communications enabled 547 Signal Troop to provide tactical intelligence to support commanders in Vietnam.

These records provide a glimpse of the operational and administrative conditions at the time, including staffing pressures and organisational and command structures, along with operational outcomes and interoperability with allies.
