| The Data Diode Device can be connected between two networks of different security levels to provide a one-way data path. It prevents information from being transmitted (including covertly) from the high level network to the low level network. .
Some possible methods of use for the Data Diode Device while linking two separately cabled networks of different security levels is to allow:
- WWW or news group information from the low level network to be transferred to the high level network so that browsers on the high level network can access that information;
- Electronic mail for high level network users to be copied from the low level network to the high level network, allowing those users to read their email from their desk; and
- Low level network files and databases to be replicated on the high level network.
