Pointsec PC Version 4.3 is a hard disk encryption application. It is a software based security product for the Microsoft Windows based PC platform that employs both boot authentication and transparent disk encryption to provide protection of information resources stored on fixed media in a workstation or laptop. Multiple user authentication mechanisms are supported, including fixed passwords, dynamic/challenge-response authentication, smart cards, and remote help. Successful authentication is required before the operating system is allowed to boot.

The workstation or laptop running Pointsec PC Version 4.3 can also communicate with a Pointsec PC Version 4.3 Distribution Server that provides client workstations or laptops with a central point for storage of installation files, recovery files, update profiles, and software updates. No components of the TOE are installed on the server as all communications are initiated from the workstation. This allows a network of workstations or laptops running Pointsec PC Version 4.3 to be centrally administered via file based methods.

Please Note:The smart card and token authentication mechanisms were not included in the scope of the Common Criteria evaluation.

Agencies intending to use this product for systems classified HIGHLY PROTECTED MUST contact DSD.

Further Guidance: DSD has determined that the Safeword password token when used with Pointsec for PC version 4.3 is not suitable for Australian Government use with classified information
